As part of the broader traffic calming program on the Northern Beaches that aims to slow the traffic to 30km/h in High Pedestrian Activity Areas, Council staff are considering plans for road treatments in four Manly locations. These locations are considered entry points to the Manly CBD and will signal to drivers to drop their speed to 30km/h.

  • Fairlight Street between James Street and West Esplanade
  • Commonwealth Parade between West Esplanade and The Crescent
  • Darley Road between Ashburner Street and Cliff Street
  • Osborne Road between East Esplanade and Addison Road

Consultation with the local communities will now take place on these high level plans prior to implementation.

Manly Community Forum members will be meeting with Senior Council staff regarding these plans as well as clarifying Council plans for improving Darley Road from the Victoria Parade roundabout to North Head. Any works must include reinstatement and improvements to the bike lane, footpaths, pedestrian crossings, refuges and signage as well as managing the speed limits, particularly of the trucks using the road in the wee small hours of the morning. Darley Road is a residential street and a High Pedestrian Activity Area as well as the gateway to North Head.
